Do you see failure as opportunity or as a negative situation to be avoided? Unlike most people, Henry Ford saw failure as a positive. He said, "Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently."
Wow. So much wisdom in so few words!
Most people today would not understand how failure could be anything but negative. Their way of dealing with failure is in the moment emotional. But it is true that "Anything worthwhile takes time." They don't want a lesson, they want instant gratification.
Failure is a stepping stone to success because it is a learning experience. Have you ever heard the saying that "Good decisions come from experience, and experience comes from bad decisions"?
You are going to make some bad decisions in life. Everyone does. Absolutely nobody escapes. So, the question is, what are you going to do when you make a bad decision?
I hope the answer is that you will learn from it. That is how you turn failure into opportunity. You become one step closer to success.
Here is another example: Everyone knows how Thomas Edison failed thousands of time before coming up with the right element for the electric light bulb. Think of the consequence for mankind if he would have quit after his first few attempts.
When asked about how he felt about failing thousands of times, he responded that he had not failed thousands of times. No. He had been successful at finding out a lot of ways that didn't work. Wow. What an attitude. A prime example of failure as opportunity.
So what should you do when you feel the urge to quit. Easy solution: Go into the motivational toolbox on this website. Pick a tool that will either inspire you to move forward or help you to accomplish the task even if you do not feel like it.
Let's say you are sitting on the couch not feeling motivated, and yet, you have something that just has to be done. What tools will help you in that situation? Well, you can use:
Here is something else to consider - Has anyone ever accomplished your goal? If the answer is yes, you can find out what steps they took and do the same steps. This is called modeling. And, the chances are excellent that you will get the same results. The results are what matters.
It's amazing what a change in perspective can do. After all, who knows, the very next attempt could be the one where success becomes reality.
Focus is key. What will you focus on when dealing with failure? Will it be, "Oh no. I failed!!!" or the better way thinking, "I just learned so much from this failure. I won't try that again." Doesn't that make more sense?
Suddenly when people are describing you, they will talk about your mental toughness and your persistence. Of course some people will just say how lucky you are. They don't know all the work you put into it and how you chose to look at failure as opportunity.
Warning: Some cursing. If that bothers you...don't watch the video.
