Becoming an opportunity seeker can change your life

An opportunity seeker is a person who knows that good fortune exists everywhere, every day of the year. They also know that while it exists everywhere, to find it, you really have to seek. Seldom is it looking to find you.

The dictionary defines opportunity as "an occasion or situation which makes it possible to do something you want to do or need to do." That's simple. Good fortune has arrived.

So you may wonder if everyone isn't an opportunity seeker? No, they're not, and here's why - Most people wait until they happen to bump into an opportunity. This is where the phrase "fell into his lap" comes from. Most people live in their comfort zone where things remain the same month in and month out. Don't you know people like that? Are you one? If so, this article is for you.

And yet, it is so much easier today to find opportunity than it was 50 years ago (I'm 72 year old, so I know.) Today, a person can go online to gather any information they need. That was not possible before the internet. If you are a fairly young person, surprise, the Internet is a fairly new phenomenon in mankind's history.

It's incredible how much more there is to do in life now thanks to the Internet. Now you can learn anything (youtube.com), form new relationships and reinforce old ones (social media), find apps to help you complete tasks easier without someone else's help (app stores), even get funding for your ideas (Crowdfunding). Do you need a college degree in any subject? You can get it online.

So, it is not a question of whether you can find opportunities. It's a question of will you make the effort? You've heard the phrase "Opportunity knocks?" Well, here's the problem with that, it's just not true. It seldom happens that way. The good news is you do not have to wait for it to happen. You can look for opportunity and, if none present themselves, you can create one.

Becoming A Professional Opportunity Seeker Who Prepares For The Advancing Opportunities Coming In The Decades Ahead Will Take Effort, But It Will Be Worth It.

Do you have a growth mindset? Do you believe that how your life turns out is mostly up to you. Everyone decides their own course in life. And that course is dependent, to a large extent, on the choices you make.

I know, I know, making decisions is not easy to do. Well, that goes for  everyone. Nobody escapes.

But if you have a growth mindset, you believe you can change, can form new habits, and move forward in life by taking initiative.

The alternative is to not make a decision, which can be and is usually disastrous. So decide today to become an opportunity seeker and an opportunity creator.

The first thing you have to do is develop your awareness. So many people walk by an opportunity that could be staring them in the face. I've done this, everyone has. So you want to get better at recognizing opportunity. That requires practice. But, who knows you might find the right opportunity and become a millionaire.

From the book "The Millionaire Mind" by Dr. Thomas J. Stanley:

"How did we become millionaires in one generation?  Most of us saw an economic opportunity that others just ignored, and we had the willingness to take financial risk given the promise of good return. This is especially true for those of us who are self-employed. But we know there is a strong correlation between one's willingness to take financial risk and one's level of wealth."

That brings up the necessity to examine risk when looking for opportunity. You can't kid yourself.

So, if you are willing to take some financial risk, every day, many times a day, ask yourself, "What is the opportunity for me in this situation?" Also, if you find yourself embroiled in a difficulty, ask yourself, "What is the opportunity for me in this difficulty?"

Don't stop there. Every day, look at what is going on in your life, and say to yourself, "This is an opportunity for me to _______." Finish that sentence.

You may only find minor opportunities. But, hey, those minor opportunities add up over time. And you never know when what seemed, at first, like a small opportunity turns into a major one.

A word of warning:

There are people who are chronic opportunity seekers who love the thrill of finding something exciting to do next, but who aren't also entrepreneurial enough to turn the opportunity into a business. Even a side business. You don't want to be that kind of person.

It is important here to not kid yourself. Are you serious about creating true value in the marketplace? Or is this just an adrenaline rush?

You have to be willing to put the time and effort into the opportunity you see. If you find yourself going from one opportunity to the next, never completing one, well...that's a real problem. And that mindset will set you back in both money and time. Repetition in this case is a major clue of a problem, not an opportunity.

If Necessary, Become An Opportunity Creator

A true opportunity Seeker has the attitude that if an opportunity isn't present, they will create one. In that respect, they are more than an opportunity seeker, they are also an opportunity creator.

How much time and effort does it take? It doesn't matter. You are going for a better life. And why not? Sitting around hoping things will change is usually frustrating and costly.

What's necessary to understand is you will have to get out of your comfort zone. You have to accept that. The "same old, same old" won't cut it with the technology storm that is about to come about. The storm includes AI, Robots, brain interfacing with computers, and more.

Jobs will go out of existence. That's a fact. And that means millions of people will need to acquire new skills. For that, getting out of their comfort zone is a must. It happened to people when the Industrial Revolution occurred and it's about to happen now.

For those who learn to seek opportunity where none seemed to exist,  who are looking for the advancing opportunities on the horizon, they will prosper while others suffer. Life will be easier for them.

So, why wait? If the storm is coming, get ready for it. Start looking now for opportunities. Become a professional opportunity seeker. Make more money as opportunities present themselves.

How do you get good in finding and creating opportunities. An easy way is to set daily quotas for yourself by asking the following questions. Every day, ask yourself, "What is the opportunity I see in what I am observing?" And also, "What is the opportunity in this difficulty?" There usually is an opportunity to find in every difficulty.

Here's another one: At different times of the day, say to yourself, "This is an opportunity for me to ________." (Fill in the blank.)

The more often you look for opportunity, the more often you will find it. Make opportunity seeking a habit. Your life is determined by what you choose to do and what you refuse to do. Choose wisely.

There are so many types business opportunities on the horizon that will drastically change the face of business, it is amazing. I'm talking about how robotics and artificial intelligence will change life as we know it. Jobs will be created that do not exist today. It's reminds me of what happened when computers were invented and millions of old jobs were lost while millions of new jobs were created. The difference, this time, is how fast the revolution will happen. Back then, people had time to adjust to changes in the work force. That's not the case this time. People will have to adapt quickly. Taking initiative matters. It matters a lot.
